Newsletter: April 2026
President's Report

It’s been a long, cold winter—literally and figuratively—but today finally feels like the first real hint of Spring. Many of us took part in the No Kings 3.0 protests, and that energy matters. Now we need to carry it forward as we work to protect our democracy and elect candidates who will do the same. And by the way, here are photos from our local events.
Join us for our next SLDC meeting on Tuesday, April 14 at 6:30 PM 📍 538 Thomas Street, Coopersburg
Let’s bring that No Kings spirit with us. Bring your signs, your ideas, and your determination. And bring your friends and neighbors now eager to learn and do more, maybe even join SLDC. We’ll talk about concrete next steps we can take right here in Southern Lehigh—and yes, we have some fun things planned too. One to look forward to: an Iron Pigs game on July 29th (Save that Date!)
Candidates have been invited and usually come to our meetings where they can speak.
SLDC is also trying to collect the various news articles on the candidates. Please visit our "2026 Election in the Media" webpage. And if you see something we should post, feel free to send it along.

Not sure where your polling place is? Southern Lehigh Polling Locations and Ballot Drop Box Plan 2026
Poll greeters primarily thank voters for participating and share a simple SLDC info piece we’re preparing. You may also hand out literature for your favorite candidates—just be sure to clarify that these are your personal choices, not SLDC endorsements.
New this year: our Need a Friend / Bring a Friend campaign, encouraging voters to head to the polls with an SLDC member or neighbor. A little camaraderie goes a long way.
The Pennsylvania Democratic Party needs housing for its staff to work on the Congressional election. Do you have an extra room you can lend? I’ve found that the staffers are usually college age kids from out of the area that work long hours and are not looking to become part of the family. They just need a bed and a shower. Here’s the sign up form: 2026 Supporter Housing Interest Form

Did You Know...?
- A couple of weeks ago, I asked my kids if they planned to attend the No Kings protests in their cities. One of my sons said he went to No Kings 3 but felt it didn’t make a difference—nothing changed afterward. I thought about that a lot.
Then I came across a podcast, a Substack article, and a FB post that really clarified the purpose of these marches. They’re not meant to create immediate change. They’re meant to remind us that we’re part of something bigger—to show the world that millions of people believe in the need for change. That sense of solidarity matters.

- For another suggestion, in making your economic voice “heard”, consider unsubscribing to right-leaning services. Scott Galloway has created a list of suggested sites to “Resist and Unsubscribe.” Here’s the link https://www.resistandunsubscribe.com/. Scott says it’s a flexible & imperfect list, but the big-hitters are listed first. You can also look up podcasts (on Apple, YouTube, Spotify, etc) to hear him talk about it.

A BIG BLUE THANK YOU goes to the many volunteers for the second petition signing in March: Nancy B, Joan L, Laura T, Mallory L, Eileen C, Judy F, Donna S, Julie S, Ronnie A, Dan M, Robin B, Clark C, Amber S, Ann S, Paul M, Kathie P, Emily G, and special thanks to Tracy M for the pretzels! I neglected to thank Donna S for making up easily readable signs for each race. We used them for both of our petition signing events. Over 150 people signed our petitions, so thank you Southern Lehigh!
